Franco Scala, born in Imola and former pupil of Alfredo Casella, graduated from the Conservatorio G.B. Martini in Bologna with the teacher Gherardo Mecarini Carmignani, and then continued his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maestro Carlo Zecchi.

After having performed in many concerts both in Italy and abroad, he decided to dedicate his life to teaching. For 30 years he was a teacher at the Conservatory “Gioacchino Rossini” in Pesaro, where he distinguished himself through his innovative way of teaching. As a result of this activity he was repeatedly invited, together with his class of young pianists, to various Italian conservatories. Franco Scala has given master classes both in Italy and abroad, and he has been invited on countless occasions to be on the juries of some of the most important piano competitions, including he Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.

Many of his students have won the most prestigious international competitions, such as the “Franz Liszt” Utrecht; “Arthur Rubinstein” Tel Aviv, “Van Cliburn” Fort Worth, Texas; “Ferruccio Busoni” Bolzano “GPA” Dublin, “Franz Schubert” Dortmund, Prix d’Honneur “Santander” Spain, etc…

He is Founder and Director of the International Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro”.
